Introduction to Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center

The Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center is currently a "National Mechanics   Experimental   Teaching   Demonstration    Center"   and   a    "National   Mechanics    and Engineering Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center". It is a high-level experimental center that places equal emphasis on both teaching and scientific research.

In 1993, Jiangxi University of Technology and Jiangxi University merged to establish Nanchang University.  Through  departmental  adjustments,  the  university   merged  the  original  Engineering Mechanics Research Institute of the Civil Engineering and Architecture Department, the Mechanics Teaching and Research Section, the Mechanics Laboratory, and the Theoretical Mechanics Teaching and Research Section of the Mechanical Engineering Department to form the Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center. In 2003, to further strengthen experimental teaching and research capabilities, the university implemented a university-college two-level management system for the Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center. After long-term investment and construction by the university, the center's fixed assets have now increased to over 40 million RMB, with 14 laboratories, an area of 6025 square meters, and over 300 instruments and equipment pieces. The center has 23 faculty members, including 9 professors and 6 associate professors (including senior experimentalists), over 80% of whom hold doctoral degrees. The Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center has now become a high-level basic discipline platform that serves the university's undergraduate teaching while also conducting high-level technological innovation research.

The Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center currently undertakes the teaching anexperimental tasks of mechanics courses for undergraduates and postgraduates across the university. It serves 15 engineering majors university-wide, including Civil Engineering, Hydropower, and Engineering Mechanics, involving over 20 courses such as Engineering Mechanics and Engineering Mechanics Experiment. There are over 50 various experimental projects, annually receiving over 2000 students for experimental teaching tasks. Through unremitting efforts, it was approved as a "National Mechanics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" in 2006 and as a "National Mechanics and Engineering Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center" in 2014. Only 4 university mechanics experiment centers nationwide simultaneously possess these two national-level centers. During its long-term construction and development, the teaching team of the Engineering Mechanics  Experiment  Center  has  formed  characteristics  of  dedicated  teaching,  strict  management,  and standardized service, receiving attention and support from the university. Mechanics courses are popular among the vast majority of students. The center has successively won 3 provincial-level teaching achievement awards and 2 university-level teaching achievement first prizes. It has built 8 provincial-level high-quality resource sharing courses, high-quality online open courses, provincial first-class courses, and courses launched on thChinese University MOOC international platform; 1 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental project; 4 teachers have been successively rated as "National Xu Zhilun Excellent Mechanics Teacher" by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

The Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center is a high-level academic platform based on the Mechanics discipline of Nanchang University, possessing a first-level doctoral program in Mechanics and a Mechanics postdoctoral research station. In recent years, the Mechanics Experiment  Center  has  undertaken  over   10   national-level  research  projects   and   dozens   of provincial/ministerial    level    and    industry-sponsored    projects.    Research    directions     include experimental  and  computational  analysis  of  aviation  material   and  structural  performance,  key mechanical issues in disaster prevention and mitigation of civil engineering structures, basic theory of turbulence and engineering applications of fluid mechanics, etc. The Mechanics Experiment Center deepens cooperation with large enterprises such as Jiangling Motors Group and Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, serving Jiangxi's economic construction through research on key mechanical problems in automotive structures, transmission tower structures, and wind turbine tower structures; the Mechanics Experiment Center also vigorously strengthens ties with aviation research institutes and enterprises  such  as  China  Helicopter Research  and Development Institute, with  cooperation involving  multiple  models  of  civil  aircraft,  contributing  its  share  to  helping  Jiangxi  realize  its "Aviation Dream".

Through the joint efforts of the teachers at the Mechanics Experiment Center, in 2012, the Nanchang University Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center was rated as "Jiangxi Province Worker Pioneer Team", in 2019 it was awarded "National Worker Pioneer Team" by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and in 2022 it was rated as "Jiangxi Province High-Level Undergraduate Teaching Team".
