Introduction to the Doctoral program in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering

The doctoral program in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering was authorized in 2024. Aiming to satisfy with the national and regional development demands in the fields of civil and hydraulic engineering, this program is dedicated to cultivating high-level talents and leaders who poss the solid theoretical foundation, outstanding practical capabilities, technological innovation and strong sense of social responsibility. This program comprises the following three specialized fields: (1) Hydraulic Engineering, with research interests including Rock Mechanics in Hydraulic Engineering and Dam Safety, Safety Monitoring of Hydraulic Structures, and Hydraulics and River-Lake Management; (2) Civil Engineering, with research interests covering Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering Hazard Mitigation, Green Advanced Materials and Carbon Sequestration Technologies, and High-Performance Structural Design and Intelligent Construction.
(3) Watershed Carbon Neutrality (an interdisciplinary field integrating civil/hydraulic engineering with ecology and environmental science), with its specific research areas such as Conjugated Soil and Habitat Construction, Watershed Water-Carbon Synergy and Pollution/Carbon Reduction, and Watershed Ecological Carbon Sequestration and Value Realization.

Complying with the talent-driven development strategy, this program emphasizes the talent-cultivation and comprehensive faculty training, thus developing outstanding disciplinary leaders and professionally excellent faculty. In the doctoral program, 42 doctoral supervisors were authorized. Besides, one Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 50 national and provincial-level talent were included, such as the Chief Scientists of the National 973 Program, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Excellent Young Scientists Foundation awardees, and participants in the National Young Talent Support Program.
