Introduction to Nanchang University’s Doctoral Program in Mechanics

The discipline of mechanics at Nanchang University was established in 1958 and is one of the earliest key disciplines in Jiangxi Province to offer a master's program. In 2005, the discipline was granted the authority to confer doctoral degrees in "Solid Mechanics." By 2014, it had established a postdoctoral research station in mechanics, and in 2015, it launched an undergraduate program in mechanics. In 2017, the first-level doctoral program in mechanics was approved. A comprehensive talent cultivation system encompassing undergraduate-master's-doctoral-postdoctoral programs in mechanics has been established. Each training segment from undergraduate to postdoctoral is the only one of its kind within Jiangxi Province.

The doctoral program in mechanics at Nanchang University (Code: 080100) continuously strengthens faculty ethics and enhances the professional capabilities of its academic team. In 2019, it was awarded the title of "National Workers' Pioneer Award" by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. To meet the needs of local economic development in Jiangxi, the doctoral program actively expands its research fields and directions, with a focus on three major sub-disciplines: engineering mechanics, fluid mechanics, and computational mechanics. Leveraging high-level academic platforms, the program strives to improve the quality of graduate education, cultivating high-quality professionals in the field of mechanics for universities, design institutes, and manufacturing enterprises. Currently, the mechanics program at Nanchang University has become a key base for mechanics education, research, and technological development in Jiangxi Province.

The doctoral program in mechanics at Nanchang University provides an excellent learning, experimental, and practical environment for its graduate students. The Mechanics Experimental Center where the PhD program in Mechanics is located was approved as Jiangxi's first "National Demonstration Center for Mechanics Experiment Teaching" in 2006 and as Jiangxi's first "National Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center for Mechanics and Engineering" in 2014. Relying on these national-level experimental teaching platforms, the doctoral program offers students access to advanced experimental instruments, abundant literature, and a dedicated 6,000 m² research building for mechanics, with equipment valued at over 30 million RMB. Additionally, the doctoral program has established university-level research institutes such as the "Fluid Mechanics Research Institute," the "Aerospace Research Institute," and the "Engineering Mechanics Research Institute," as well as research bases like the "Postdoctoral Research Station in Mechanics" and the "Provincial Demonstration Master's Program."
